Review: Insurgent

Author: Veronica Roth
Publish date: May 1, 2012
Source: Library
"One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Even though this was my second most anticipated book of the year (behind Pandemonium), it still took me over a week to read. Not because it was bad, but because I have so much going on with the end of the year and taking a class. I feel like I'm going crazy and losing my mind, but I am definitely sure of one thing: Insurgent was FANTASTIC.

Like Pandemonium, Insurgent is not a typical second book in a trilogy or series. This book was full of nonstop action and was most definitely not a boring filler. It picks up where Divergent left off and Veronica Roth does not do any recapping of previous events, so you might want to reread Divergent or check out her blog post bringing you up to speed to Insurgent (obviously book 1 spoilers if you click it!).

After reading all 525 pages of Insurgent, I WANT MORE. I loved everything we got to learn about the factions and characters. As I was reading, I kept trying to figure out what faction I would be in and I have no idea! I don't fit into just one and I think that's part of the beauty of this series: we can see ourselves everywhere and can identify with the characters. Love it.
